The institute is located at a distant of 6 Km from Silchar and is situated in Meherpur, Hailakandi Road & well connected to Silchar city. Within a few kilometers in same road other premier institutions like Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMC&H), National Institute of Technology (NIT ), and Assam University ( a Central University )are located. This institute is a premier institute in Barak Valley covering a huge area with an astonishing lands scape of 41.65 acres of land devided into two separate land, one in North Bank and the other in the South Bank in the embankment of Boalzor river. Two Boys hostels and one Girls hostels are presently running within the campus of the institute. At present 650 students and 109 faculties and employees are working. The institute has a well maintained Library with more than 20000 books & several journals.

The Diploma Courses offered by Silchar Polytechnic , affiliated to the State Council for Technical Education, Assam have been recognized by Government of India and Diploma holders are recognized for the purposes of recruitment to all subordinate posts and services under the Central Government in appropriate fields. The same recognition is maintained by the State Government of Assam and other States of the Country for the purpose of recruitment to similar subordinate posts and services under the State Government. All the Diploma courses conducted in the Silchar Polytechnic are approved by AICTE.
